I am passionate about data and investigative journalism, innovation and technology and how all this together is changing media and society.
I work at the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich and am part of the global Panama Papers Team, which was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2017. Together with Bastian Obermayer and Frederik Obermaier I was elected Germany's "Journalist of the Year 2016".
Since 2018 I have been leading a team of people with different skills at the Süddeutsche Zeitung, ranging from investigative journalism, software development, reverse engineering and news automation to infographics and digital storytelling. Have a look at our projects here. I'm glad to talk at conferences about our work.
In 2015 I passed the Lede Program in Computing and Data Science at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. Before that, I was the first data journalist to work at the Heilbronner Stimme, where I also completed my journalistic traineeship after my Master's degree in History.
I am a board member of Netzwerk Recherche, organize the Munich edition of Hacks/Hackers, am a jury member of the Aerospace Media Prize and an active member of the German Alpine Association.
